Let's face it--the Sudan is a total bummer. Child soldiers, starvation, and a complete lack of a music scene. How can we save the Sudan to give them a music scene? It's an interconnected problem, and here's 10 ways we can save the Sudan with a burgeoning indie scene.

Don't forget to read this think piece about how the death of Michael Horowitz has impacted us all. Mike really cared about the Sudan.

1. Bringing instruments to make music
Let's face it--when things are silent, we start thinking to much. Let's make some noise. Some beautiful independent noise. Instruments are a perfect stress reliever, but also a way to create something beautiful. It's the first step in creating the Sudan's indie music scene.

2. Opening up a Roth IRA
We're all trying to make money in this crazy world. Let's face it, we'd all like to start building that nest egg. A Roth IRA for the Sudan, and for people in the Sudan can help them in the long run. They may not see the benefits right away, but at the end of the day, they'll love having that non-taxable money due to their income bracket.

3. Donating to Mike.
Mike Horowitz was the first person to ever bring awareness to the indie music scene in the Sudan. Let's face it--the guy was taken too soon, due to his death at the indie band's show.

4. LIVESTRONG bracelets
As humans, we all want to support something. But how do we prove to people that we are being supportive? Bracelets. While LIVESTRONG might be dead, bracelets can raise awareness. At the end of the day, let's face it--sometimes awareness is the only thing we can contribute.

5. Going on a Youth Mission Trip
We're not going to be young forever, which is why it is important to go on a youth mission trip. Let's face it--sometimes being a missionary can make for great FB photo opps. Traveling to the third world is dangerous, but it's all worth it if you can make a difference, not just to people in the third world, but also being young and interacting with social media to raise awareness.

How else can indie music be used to save the Sudan?

Indie band to release tribute EP to Mike Horowitz, who died at their show

The indie band cannot escape from the headlines. Last week, it released a new song, then teamed up with an energy drink brand to release a new EP, then it went and collaborated with a relevant artist from yesterday, eventually finding itself in a mild controversy. However, in the saddest news of all, a fan was tragically killed at their show yesterday.

The band has decided to give back to Michael, releasing the tribute EP "Mike Was a Friend of Mine." The official album art is above. It is available on iTunes and SpotifyStore right now.

The frontman of the band released a statement on the band's Facebook page.

Since the moment that I heard Mike passed away, I have not been able to eat, sleep or think. The idea that one of our fans died at our own hands has absolutely killed me. Well, it is Michael who was killed, but I did not ask for this. Part of me immediately wanted to retire. But then I realized (with the help of my manager and PR team) that we could actually give back. In order to support Michael's funeral fees, AND give back, we have decided to release an EP and do a one night only tribute concert. It's what Mike would've wanted.

All he cared about was the children in the Sudan. Let's make this happen. For Mike. And for the Sudan.

Michael Horowitz's family could not be reached for comment, but in an official Facebook post, they 'liked' the status originally posted by the indie band. All extra proceeds with go to the Mike Horowitz foundation to bring a music scene to the Sudan, which would make the country a better place.

The Sudan could not be reached for comment.
